SkillsTown leads the way in inclusive online learning

Eindhoven, 8th February 2024 – SkillsTown, a frontrunner in online education, has made a significant advancement when it comes to inclusive digital learning. They have launched the first online learning platform in the Netherlands that is designed to be accessible for everyone. The innovative platform breaks barriers, by providing accessibility to individuals with a spectrum of disabilities, including visual, hearing, physical, and cognitive impairments. This way, they have the opportunity to learn without limitations, just like everyone else.

A revolutionary step in inclusive learning

Approximately 1 in 6 of the global population, which is 16% of the workforce, has a disability. In the Netherlands, this figure rises to 25% of the workforce. SkillsTown is committed to making learning and development accessible to all and has therefore fully adapted its online learning platform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG). With a targeted suite of around 500 e-learning products, offered in multiple languages and various learning formats such as essentials, webinars, and podcasts, SkillsTown is establishing a new standard for inclusive education. “We are proud to be the first in the Netherlands to make learning accessible to everyone. By aligning our platform with WCAG standards, we can provide a learning opportunity that is truly inclusive,” says Tom Bos, CEO of SkillsTown. “It’s about ensuring that we leave no one behind and that we provide equal opportunities for everyone who wants to learn and grow, regardless of the challenges they face in life.”

Learning without limitations

At SkillsTown, accessibility is a top priority, ensuring a learning space where everyone can engage in personal and professional development. For individuals with hearing impairments, the provision of subtitles makes video content fully accessible. Meanwhile, the incorporation of descriptive alt-texts for images and the option to modify text sizes significantly eases the learning journey for those with visual impairments and dyslexia. The platform is designed to facilitate navigation without the use of a mouse, making it accessible for users with motor skills impairments. The interface is intuitive, allowing all users to move efficiently through trainings and materials. Furthermore, there are settings to adjust the colour contrast within the online learning platform, providing an optimal and comfortable learning experience for individuals with colour recognition difficulties.

Create inclusive learning content yourself

SkillsTown believes that you shouldn’t be limited when it comes to making your own e-learning modules. With the authoring tool ‘Create’, SkillsTown enables organisations to design their own inclusive learning content. This tool empowers anyone to generate content that meet the varied needs of their workforce, thereby not only expanding but also enriching the range of educational offerings.
SkillsTown extends an invitation to businesses and individuals to discover the difference in learning and to provide each of their employees with the resources necessary for excellence. The platform is available to all organisations that value inclusivity. Get a free demonstration now.
