This is how Univé provides emergency response training for all employees

Safety is not only the responsibility of the emergency response team (BHV). All your employees should know how to deal with specific situations. That is why, at SkillsTown, we have designed a customisable online training programme for all employees to promote workplace safety.

Univé places great importance on workplace safety and enthusiastically uses this training within its organisation. Jacqueline van der Hoek, Training Coordinator at Univé, shares—together with our own Content Manager, Karin Bremer—how they designed and implemented this customised training.

Safety for All Employees

It is important that everyone knows what to do in the event of an emergency at work. At Univé, safety is therefore a key topic. Jacqueline explains:

“Our mission is to contribute to each other’s safety, health, and well-being. We have a large group of emergency responders within Univé. Through internal news updates, we regularly draw attention to this topic. The SkillsTown e-learning module is a great next step to truly familiarise everyone in the organisation with safety procedures and the BHV teams. This gives safety broader support.”

There are certain things every employee should know, especially when it comes to safety. Karin shares:

“We created the ‘Emergency Response for All Employees’ e-learning module to ensure that employees feel more confident in case something happens at work. It is extremely important to know where the nearest AED is located. Or to know what to do if a colleague accidentally spills hot water on their hand.”

Employee about the training:
“The human dimension is also knowing how to help your colleague when they feel vulnerable.”

Customisation

This naturally involves a great deal of customisation: where is the first aid kit or AED located in your office? What are the evacuation routes? And where is the emergency exit or assembly point?

“The customisation options were very important to us,” says Jacqueline. “At our locations in Assen and Zwolle, we have different assembly points and AEDs, and it is useful for employees to know where they are located. It is also important that employees know whom to report to or whom to contact in case of an emergency. This could be the reception desk or our general emergency number via MS Teams.

That is why it was great that there was plenty of room for our own input in the training. We could make suggestions and add topics that were not yet included. I always feel free to ask anything.”

Tip from Jacqueline:
“Make sure all your employees are informed about your organisation’s safety procedures, such as the existence of a BHV team and where colleagues can go in case of an emergency. This is one of the most important things you can share with your employees. This knowledge ensures safety for yourself and for your colleagues.”

A Successful Collaboration

“Our tests show that the e-learning works extremely well,” Karin proudly shares. “This is partly due to the many practical assignments, interactive elements, and quizzes. For example: what do you do if you see your colleague suddenly turn pale?

The e-learning is also easy to follow in short blocks of 10 minutes per day, which makes it very accessible.”

Jacqueline agrees:

“All in all, it is a well-designed training programme. I am very happy with the final product.”

The collaboration between SkillsTown and Univé does not end there:

“Creating training programmes together is a constant part of our conversations. Whenever an important topic comes up, I immediately think of SkillsTown to develop something together.”
