With their focus on smarter, safer and more sustainable work environments, they help organizations move forward. In a dynamic industry where processes and technology are constantly changing, Wiltec needs flexible learning solutions. Together with Jos Maassen, Learning and Development Lead, we talk about how Wiltec achieved 100% compliancy and what role customized e-learning plays in this.

The challenge: making digital security visible to all

As part of a new ISO certification in the area of security awareness, Wiltec faced a major challenge. Employees had to become more aware of risks around digital security and information management within the organization. Practical examples such as closing your screen or dealing with suspicious e-mails.

The solution: customized learning for every employee

Together with SkillsTown, Wiltec developed a customized e-learning that suited each target group within the organization. An adaptive learning format allowed everyone to start with an entry-level test. Based on the results, each employee was offered exactly those components relevant to his or her knowledge level.
For employees on the shop floor, such as in the warehouse, physical meetings were organized instead of online learning. This hybrid learning concept made the training not only approachable, but also effective for each group. The e-learning contained recognizable cases, clear language, lots of visuals, short videos and practical examples from the own organization.
Jos, responsible for L&D at Wiltec, worked intensively with SkillsTown in a co-creative process: 70% of the content was provided by SkillsTown, the remaining 30% was customized with Wiltec-specific content. Together with a test group, the training was critically tested and optimized before going live.

Awareness as an organization-wide theme

What made this approach extra successful was the internal campaign around security awareness. For two months, the training was announced through posters, internal communications and awareness campaigns. April was declared 'month of security awareness' and on April 1, the launch date, employees were challenged with 10 triggers and recognizable cases. Consider questions such as, "You find a USB stick with your director's name on it. What do you do?"
Marketing played a big role in the campaign. Posters were developed, successes were shared and even trigger cards were distributed throughout the company premises that humorously alerted colleagues to risks (such as open screens). An internal rule even became: leave screen open = pay for sausage rolls.

The results: both the campaign and the customized e-learning were extremely effective:

- 100% participation: all 377 employees completed the training, an exceptional result.
- High involvement: the training was perceived as interesting and approachable. Employees actively engaged with each other about the content.
- Increased awareness: colleagues spontaneously started pointing out risks and mistakes to each other. 'They drew my attention to details from the training, which is real impact.'
- Measurable behavior change: thanks to awareness, unwritten rules of behavior and improved work routines emerged.

Employees surprisingly enjoyed the training and really engaged with each other about it. That's exactly what you want to achieve with awareness.

Tips from Jos for other organizations

- Collaborate with Communications, IT & Data, KAM and and legal when developing content.
- Create a campaign: don't just portray it as mandatory training, but build awareness.
- Make learning fun and concrete: use images, recognizable language and practical examples.
- Use adaptive learning: so everyone gets only what is really relevant.
- Follow up and keep communicating: personal contact and reminders make the difference.

More than compliance: building a learning and safe organization

For Wiltec, this project is more than a mandatory training course. It is a building block in a broader vision of smart, safe and future-oriented work. The collaboration with SkillsTown proves that customization, combined with adaptive learning and a strong campaign, not only leads to compliance, but also to connection, pride and sustainable results.

By investing in recognizable and smart learning solutions, we as an organization remain not only compliant, but also agile and engaged.
