What a day! On Tuesday, September 16, Learning in Motion 2025 took place at the Gooiland Hotel in Hilversum. An event that was anything but a standard conference: interactive, vibrant and full of inspiration. HR and L&D professionals from diverse sectors came together to discover how the future of learning and development is taking shape.
This year's theme was Crafting the Future of Development. And we felt it: from stimulating keynotes and interactive workshops to valuable conversations during the breaks and drinks.

An interactive opening round

The day began with an interactive opening round for a flying start. Participants were challenged by Tom to respond to statements by standing or remaining seated. Questions such as "With the advent of AI, I won't have a job in five years" or "I have an impact on the future of learning and development" immediately generated lively conversations.
In addition, Ellen ter Gast was present as a speaker. She took the participants into the world of the brain and showed how neuroscience can help us better understand and improve learning processes. What happens in our heads when we learn? How do we ensure that information sticks? With appealing examples and scientific insights, Ellen captivated the audience from the very first moment. It was an inspiring start that immediately made it clear: this event is about depth and application.

Workshops full of current topics

During the different rounds, participants could choose which angles they wanted to explore. From strategic issues to practical applications, there was something for everyone. Some of the themes that took center stage:

  • What really works to get employees to learn? A session that touched on the core challenge of many organizations: how do you activate employees to continue to develop?
  • AI in L&D: how to deploy artificial intelligence as a tool for learning and development, for example through an L&D Toolbox for AI adoption or AI-driven conversation simulations.
  • Learning culture and ownership: how do you move from loose learning activities to a sustainable learning culture where employees take control?
  • Onboarding renewal: how do you make sure new employees really land and become productive quickly?
  • Compliance and motivation: even mandatory training can be made inspiring, as the session Making a party out of mandatory training showed.

The common thread throughout the day: learning and development never stands still. Organizations must make choices now to prepare employees for the future.

Experience and connection central

Participants described the day as interactive, vibrant, connecting and inspiring. Not only the content, but also the setting contributed to this. The Gooiland Hotel in Hilversum turned out to be the perfect location: centrally located, easily accessible and with an open atmosphere that stimulated meeting and informal learning. In between, there was ample opportunity to enjoy culinary moments and informal networking. During the breaks and at the closing drinks, valuable conversations arose that were at least as instructive as the sessions themselves.

The Closing with Ernst-Jan Pfauth

The day was concluded by media entrepreneur and author Ernst-Jan Pfauth, known for his book Intentional Living. He gave the participants insights that are directly applicable in their daily work and life. For example, did you know that a person can work in supreme concentration for a maximum of four hours a day? Or that the average knowledge worker is distracted every 44 seconds? With these facts, he demonstrated the importance of making conscious choices for focus and meaningful work.
In addition, Ernst-Jan gave the audience stimulating questions to think about at home. Questions that help you to focus your values and get more satisfaction from your work. It was an inspiring conclusion that sent participants to the networking drinks with energy and direction.
