Roué Verveer becomes ambassador for learning and development in Suriname

Eindhoven, November 2, 2022 - Online training provider SkillsTown recently announced that comedian and stand-up comedian Roué Verveer will become an ambassador for learning and development in Suriname. SkillsTown will work with Roué Verveer and Connect by Talent, their local partner in Suriname, to make education and training accessible to residents of Suriname under the name Get Skilled Suriname.
Together for education
Whereas in the Netherlands the concept of lifelong learning is a given, in Suriname this support is not yet a given. With this in mind, Roué Verveer and SkillsTown want to contribute to the development of the people of Suriname. They do this with an initiative called Get Skilled Suriname. By facilitating online training in an accessible and fun way, they can make a big step towards this.
Hans Schuurmans, CEO of SkillsTown, says: "In the Netherlands, a learning culture is taken for granted and there are a huge number of providers in the field of training and development, of which SkillsTown is one. In Suriname this is different, there is currently little available in the field of (online) training for professionals who no longer go to school. We at SkillsTown want to be one of the first to contribute to this and give residents of Suriname the chance for a better future."
"I think I can make a nice contribution from my background and fame and enthuse residents of Suriname to develop themselves."

Roué Verveer adds, "Not everyone believes in that better future, because of everything that has happened in Suriname in the past. That is why it is important to draw attention to the new developments that are currently taking place and the opportunities this brings. I think that from my background and fame I can make a nice contribution to this and enthuse residents of Suriname to develop themselves."
Working on development
Connect by Talent is the organization that will deliver the SkillsTown training locally. In combination with the online trainings of SkillsTown, Connect by Talent is even better able to facilitate the inhabitants of Suriname in their professional and personal development. Prekash Ramsingh, Managing Director of Connect by Talent, says: "To achieve this, you need a good ambassador. With Roué we not only have someone who is appreciated and respected in Suriname, but also someone who is fully committed to a better future for Suriname. In addition, we also hope that other Dutch organizations also want to contribute to this."

Free access to education
In addition to providing an online learning offering to Surinamese organizations, a portion of the proceeds will also be used to offer less fortunate people free access to education. In addition, online training courses will be developed specifically for Suriname. This means constant investment in the current and future workforce.
