Employees need reboarding

Blog

When a fairly major change has taken place within an organization, employees may feel the need for a "reset. Some will feel less committed to the organization, while others have been working hard over the past (corona) period to keep all the balls high. In short, time for a fresh start!A reboarding can be a good time to bring employees into the change and the new way of working of the organization. During a reboarding you support your employees by activating and motivating them during the transition your organization is going through. Martine Kuepers, learning professional at SkillsTown, and Vera Gruijters, online marketer at SkillsTown, explain in 5 steps how to combine the reboarding process with an online learning platform.

1. Survey the needs of your employees

Try to look at the changes from the eyes of the organization as well as from the eyes of the employee. These changes may have been perceived as both negative and positive. To get off to a good start again, it is important to identify needs. By not only recognizing the importance of the organization, but also embracing the employees' opinions, employees will feel that they are understood. This ensures that the connection with the employees comes back.

Ask managers to have a conversation with their team about how they envision this change. How do they envision this in the future and what do they need from the managers or organization to do so? For example, it may be that some employees would like to work from home more often in the future.

Tip: Our online learning platform includes the webinar "Remote onboarding. Request a free demo to give you and your employees access to this and many other online training courses.

2. Find the right resources

This is the time to adjust your policies and culture. What have you learned in the past period and how will you reintegrate this within your organization in the upcoming period? Consider what you can continue to offer to your employees in the long term to fulfill their needs. This will allow you to properly support and retrain your employees.

The online learning platform is the place to introduce employees to the organization's new way of working. Through your own content, create a learning line where you present the changes. Consider a tutorial on the homework protocol. This can be incorporated into a short essential. In addition, a learning line can be created that focuses on hybrid working.

3. Organize a launch

Schedule a specific time from when the reboarding period will begin. Make this a moment with the executives and communications staff and think of it as a launch. If possible, you can organize a team day for this. On this day, there can also be a light-hearted discussion about how the organization's way of working has changed and how each team or department stands in it. Can't do it physically? Then do it online, for example through a live webinar. In our interactive webinar studio we make sure there is enough connection with your employees, even if it is at a distance!

Tip: Did you know that in the online learning platform you can also create an (online) event? Your employees will then be invited to this.

4. Communication

To ensure the best possible reboarding process, make sure employees feel reengaged and motivated. Ensure good communication and clarity: what do you expect from them and what do they expect from your organization? The feeling of reciprocity is very important in this. In addition, make sure there is also a sense of connection. Employees must still feel connected to the team and to the organization after these changes.
Make sure you inform your employees in advance that you as an organization are reboarding. Have it already come up once in the newsletter or on Intranet. After the launch, incorporate the points discussed through a video or essential on the online learning platform so they can always find this new information.

5. Employee satisfaction survey

Sometime after launching the reboarding process, take an employee satisfaction survey (MTO). Be open to the feedback and ask them what more you can do as an organization to optimize the process of change. Should you need support with creating and administering the survey, contact your Learning Professional at SkillsTown. We are happy to think with you about this.
