How positive psychology changes your work life

Blog

A new year, a new start. Are you going to worry about all the negative influences at work this year? No yah, try not to worry too much about that. Instead, make sure you focus more on the positive aspects. That's what we call positive psychology. How will this change your work life? You can read about it below!

Don't focus on the problems

Think about how often you deal with problems at work. Think of that one meeting you are dreading, a mind-numbing task you have to perform, or an annoying colleague. As you continue to deal with these problems, you sink deeper and deeper. In fact, new problems will always arise.

In psychology, we often pay attention to how to get rid of your problem. But if this succeeds, are you happy? No, then only that one problem is gone. Recovery from problems does not necessarily make for more job happiness. Focusing precisely on what makes you happy will make you happy. Sounds logical, right?

When are you happy?

Happiness is not in something material and fleeting. Instead, it is about living by your values and developing your individuality in them. You feel happy when you develop your talents and share something valuable so that others can enjoy it.

"Many people think that all kinds of things have to go right in their lives first and then they become happy. If you manage to get what you want, that produces much more happiness."

- Agnes Schilder, psychologist

So make sure you become aware of your strengths. At what moments does time seem to stand still for you and are you completely absorbed in your work? In these moments you end up in a positive "flow. These moments are meaningful and you need to focus on them.

Examine your peak moments

The peak moments we talked about above are not coincidences. If you start examining all your moments, you will see that they provide specific information about your own core values. About what you need to feel like you matter. When you know this, you can more consciously design your life accordingly.
