Here's what to look out for when creating a podcast

There are many reasons why making a podcast is a good idea. One of these reasons is the approachability. Podcasts are easy to listen to during daily tasks. A second reason is that your message gets full focus and attention, since you are literally "in the ear" of the listener. Want to get the maximum results from your podcast? Then there are some things you need to pay attention to. In this article, we explain them.
Different way of communicating
A podcast is 100% audio. So you have no visual support to back up your story. So use lots of examples to help your listener. Talk in pictures and describe what you are thinking about and what you see in front of you. Also, always communicate in singular during your podcast. After all, people generally listen to podcasts on their own. So it's much more personal to address them as "you" or "you" instead of "you guys. This may take some practice, but this is very important!
Making a podcast? Go for quality!
Make sure you have the right tools to record quality podcasts. As mentioned above, audio is the only form of communication, so make sure you have good sound. If your audio sounds tinny, you will already lose at least half of your listeners from the very first sentence. At our location in Eindhoven we just opened a brand new podcasting studio, where you can record professional podcasts with all the comforts and the right tools. You will also be guided by our podcasting experts. Not only during the recording, but also before and after. Think about coming up with a format, making a script and the technical final editing. This way we make sure your podcast is of the best quality!

Let the conversation flow naturally
Note that a podcast is a conversation, not a monologue. Of course, it's smart to write down some catch-up points that you can keep in there during the conversation, but make sure it doesn't become a script. The listener quickly senses when something is rehearsed or when you are running down a list. Therefore, try to live in the moment and ask about the topics that come up during the conversation. This will give the conversation more depth.
If you think you will find it difficult to come up with questions or topics for discussion during the recording itself, you can look at your questions in advance and think about what topics are likely to come up as a result. That way you can prepare yourself in advance for any follow-up questions.
Publish frequently
Most people who start a podcast make a first episode, get excited, and publish a second and sometimes a third episode that same week. After that, nothing ever follows. This is not effective. As with making YouTube videos, continuity is important in podcasting. Make sure you have a schedule you can stick to and publish your podcasts at a logical time. That way, you'll hold attention well and build engagement with your listeners.
Make sure your podcast is easy to find
But where do you publish your podcasts? It's smart to make sure you share them on a platform that your target audience can easily access. You can do this, for example, through: Spotify, Apple Podcasts and Google Podcasts. But you can also choose to share your podcasts through an online learning platform. At SkillsTown you can design your own personalized learning platform and make your podcasts easily available to your target audience here. At the same time, you can also share lots of other relevant learning content such as webinars and e-learnings.
