Are you (work) happy?

Blog

Everyone wants to live a happy life, that goes without saying. In doing so, most seek happiness primarily in their personal lives. Think about building a family, traveling far away, or a hobby that energizes you. But we spend so much time at work. So as long as you are not happy at work, can you be happy?

So scrutinizing your work happiness is very important to living a happy life. How to do this, you will read in this article.

Keep track of your results

Often, workdays go by quickly. Before you know it, it's time to close your laptop and you're no longer thinking about all you've done that day. You race home and your mind is already on what's on the menu for tonight. By ending your day this way, you don't dwell on all the goals you accomplished that day. This can leave you feeling unsatisfied.

Therefore, make sure you end your day well and write down for yourself what you accomplished. Leave this bill at your workplace so that it is also the first thing you start with the next morning. That way you can start a new working day with a good feeling and new goals.

What is your sense of purpose?

Many would prefer to work for an organization that offers them meaningful work. Or perhaps you have actually chosen a particular job in which you find meaning. As an L&D employee, this may be helping your colleagues with their development. Helping others gives you meaning. Make sure you are regularly reminded of your meaning by writing it down and hanging it up in your workplace, for example.

Make space for yourself to grow

Another important factor for job happiness is having opportunities for growth. If there is no room to develop yourself and learn new things, you will never feel fulfilled. Of course, you want to keep growing to do your job well or to improve certain skills. This will not only help you advance within your career, but also on a personal level. For example, sit down for an hour of online training every week to brush up on your knowledge and skills.

Pay more attention to social contact

This may not be a priority for many employees, but one of the biggest factors in job happiness is dealing with colleagues. Colleagues you can laugh with make your work feel like an enjoyable outing. Having nice contact with colleagues also ensures that you have someone to talk to when things get tough, or that they are more likely to lend a helping hand. So find connection with colleagues by visiting different colleagues at their workplaces and attending Friday afternoon drinks.

Where is the appreciation?

Here, unfortunately, you yourself have little influence, as this is often already integrated into the company culture or not. All you can do is compliment other colleagues regularly to encourage this culture. Do you feel that you are totally unappreciated within your organization? Discuss it with your supervisor. If nothing changes even then, you may want to consider looking further into a company where you do feel appreciated.
