The do's for delivering a webinar

Are you giving a webinar soon and want to be prepared on top of your game? In this article you will read what you should definitely do so that you keep viewers captivated and tell a story that sticks.
1. Get to the point
Nothing as boring as a long story that leaves out the core message. Therefore, try to get "to the point. Make sure both your slides and your story do not contain unnecessary information. Use as little text as possible on the slide and let it be supportive. In addition, make sure you have a goal with your webinar and that your story meets this goal. For example, do you want to tell how to bake an apple pie? Tell less about why it is so fun to bake an apple pie and more about how the viewer bakes an apple pie themselves. Keep your purpose in mind.
2. Practice until you weigh an ounce
Practice makes perfect. Because the more often you practice the webinar "dry," the more natural your presentation will come across! Once you know what you want to say in the webinar, practice presenting your story as much as possible. Pretend you are giving the webinar live and use your slides. To really get a good picture, record yourself and watch your presentation back. No one is more critical than you.
3. Attract attention
Giving a webinar requires quite a bit of preparation, then it's extra nice when your hard work is also seen by people. Therefore, start promotion on time. Choose a catchy title and communicate your webinar to the target group you want to reach. For example, send a mailing to your own network (keep in mind the AVG guidelines), create a catchy landing page and use social media to promote your webinar. At SkillsTown we can provide you with appropriate advice to promote your webinar.

4. Prepare physically
During the live broadcast, you want to appear professional, confident and calm. To keep your nerves in check, it's a good idea to do some physical exercises just before you start. For example, do a power pose or take several deep breaths in through your nose and out through your mouth. These exercises give your body peace and confidence. In addition, have a glass of water ready for during the webinar. If you notice that you start talking faster, take a break and drink some water.
5. Go for color, but not green
Is the studio in which you will be presenting using a "green screen"? If so, definitely do not wear green clothing. When using a green screen, the presenter is placed in front of a green background. During the broadcast of your webinar, the green background is then filtered out and replaced with an image or video. If you are wearing green clothing, that would mean that part of you also disappears and is replaced by the background. Of course, you want to avoid that! So no green ;). Other bright colors often work well on camera. To be sure, bring a few different sets so you can work with the webinar facilitator to see what works best for you.
6. Seek interaction
The viewers who follow your webinar are tremendously engaged. After all, they have taken the time to listen to your story. So engage them during your webinar. Give them the opportunity to ask questions or use a poll. This way, you'll keep viewers engaged and give them the opportunity to tap into your expertise. Don't be afraid of questions being asked, every question is valuable. Even if you can't answer it directly. So indicate that and get back to them later.
7. Make a recording for afterward
There are always viewers who cannot attend at your selected time. Of course, you don't want to miss them! A great advantage of sharing knowledge digitally is that the webinar can be recorded. This way, even those who do not attend live can access your content later. With this you can make existing contacts happy, but certainly also build new relationships. So always make sure that the live webinar is also recorded.
8. Provide adequate support
No matter how small or large your webinar is, if a lot depends on it, the quality must be good. Good support is therefore essential. Therefore, have a moderator who can help you receive, answer and select questions that come in during your webinar. That way, you can fully focus on telling your story.
In addition, things can sometimes go wrong during a live broadcast. This does not have to be a problem, as long as the right people are on hand to solve it immediately. We therefore recommend organizing your webinar in cooperation with a professional party so that you can concentrate on your presentation and they take care of the facility issues.
