5 tips for digital security within your organization

Blog

Every business is at risk for attacks from cybercriminals. Some of your employees may know how to deal with most dangers, but a criminal is looking for the weakest link within your organization. How to prevent cyber attacks? We give you 5 tips for increased digital security below!

1. Engage with employees

It's helpful to know what employees' experiences have been so far. How often have they experienced spam emails, viruses or other online dangers? How did they deal with these? Of course, not every employee is alert to this and it will sometimes pass them by. But, it's good to know what they are at least already paying attention to and how they are handling it.

2. Train your employees

Make sure employees gain enough knowledge about digital security so they know about all the dangers and what precautions to take. How? Offer knowledge easily through online training courses. At SkillsTown's online learning platform you will find an extensive learning offering on digital security. Make these trainings mandatory to reinforce the importance of the topic.

Tip: Within SkillsTown's online learning platform, you can also share learning lines. A learning line allows you to spotlight all online courses on digital security.

3. Do an exercise

Send employees a fake phishing email to see how they react to it. Make sure you can measure the results of this, such as how many times a link is clicked. Afterwards, schedule a meeting with everyone to discuss the results. How many employees fell for it? What could they have paid better attention to? That way you open their eyes to see that things can very easily go wrong.

4. Make sure you have good antivirus software

It is important to protect your employees' devices from malware (harmful/malicious software). Malware can infect computers in various ways, such as through computer viruses. With good antivirus software will get you a long way. However, this does not mean that they are no longer at risk. So make sure your employees always keep their eyes open!

5. Make agreements with your employees

When your employees know about all the dangers, if all goes well, they will see the importance of taking steps. Give them guidance by making agreements. For example:

  • Make sure employees encrypt important files, such as storage containing sensitive company information or password files.
  • Agree that employees contact their supervisor when they think they are receiving a suspicious e-mail or phone call. This way, others within the organization can also be alerted.
  • Make sure employees regularly back up data and systems. If these have been compromised, they will need to be restored.

Want to protect your organization from cybercriminals?

Then be the first to make sure your employees have the right knowledge. You can easily do that by having them take online training courses on this topic. At SkillsTown, we have a wide range of training courses on digital security and many other topics.
