Free online training for healthcare heroes

Blog

Humanitas Foundation, a care and welfare organization in the Rotterdam region, was offered 500 free online training packages in April for healthcare heroes. The packages are offered by online training provider SkillsTown in collaboration with their partner in healthcare Calibris Advies. With these online training packages, SkillsTown aims to provide additional support for the heroes recruited because of the corona crisis.

Extra hands for care

Recently, the Covid-19 virus has created shortages in healthcare. Especially when it comes to employees who can keep healthcare running. Through the website Extra Hands for Care, people can sign up to help. However, many people who sign up need additional education. The Humanitas Foundation will therefore use SkillsTown's 500 online training packages to train healthcare heroes.

The permanent care employees of the Humanitas Foundation have been working with SkillsTown's training packages for some time now. The 500 free packages also give the "extra hands," flex workers, volunteers and interns working on the wards the opportunity to learn online in, for example, how to wash your hands properly and what protective measures to take when it comes to preventing infection with Covid-19.

The online training package

The training package includes e-learning modules, webinars, podcasts and video feedback that allow new employees to learn both subject matter knowledge and general skills. These include dealing with hygiene and illnesses. But also training on working safely, digital collaboration, communication and stress management.

Already helped 185 employees

Meanwhile, 185 packets have been distributed to healthcare heroes. They have access to SkillsTown's online learning environment. Riza and Heidi of the Humanitas Academy are very happy with the extra packages they got to give away at this corona time.

"We have been able to give training packages to all of our 'extra hands,' flex workers and interns. Besides the practical information, it is also nice to offer this group of employees training to relax, deal with stress and invest in mindfulness. This is very important in these hectic and exciting times. Furthermore, we also gave the packages to the volunteers. Besides the practical point of view (following modules that are important for the workplace), it is nice to be able to give them something back as a token of appreciation. We are therefore enormously grateful for this initiative of Calibris and SkillsTown," said Riza de Vries and Heidi Verwaal of the Humanitas Foundation Rotterdam region.
